Argentina rugby star pulls hamstring, deceives defence and still scores but people thought he was faking it

Fake pulling your hamstring, the defence freezes, a quick change of pace and you're in for an incredible score. Well, that's not quite how it went for Jeronimo De La Fuente on the weekend, even if lots of people think it did.

Argentina put Australia to the sword on Saturday night, with their biggest ever win against a Southern Hemisphere side. The incredible 48-17 victory was hugely entertaining from a neutral and Argentinian perspective, but there is one moment that sticks out from the rest.

With 23 minutes gone, Los Pumas had already made a great start, with the score locked in at 14-10. Scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou peeled off the back of a rolling maul and fizzed a pass into De La Fuente.

The inside centre ran a strong line, before pulling up, skipping and holding his hamstring. For the world it looked as if he was injured and the chance was gone, but in a split second, as the defence paused in reaction, he changed direction and powered home past three players for a quite marvellous score.

Commentators and viewers alike thought this was an awe-inspiring slice of deception, with one describing it as "the best dummy ever". Another viewer even accused him of "sh**housery", while others thought the act was not in the spirit of the game.

But It was later made known that the hot-stepper was in fact injured, as he was substituted not one minute later.

Round Three of The Rugby Championship gets underway on August Bank Holiday weekend, with both matches taking place on Saturday the 27th. After two games, Argentina top the table following their impressive win over the Wallabies.
