It’s not often that you can compare initial public offerings (IPOs) to buses. But then again, it’s not often that firms like OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX come around. But just like buses, it seems likely that in the coming months we’ll have not one, not two, but three megacap IPOs to hit the market. Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which has merged with Musk’s xAI, set up as a competitor to ChatGPT maker OpenAI, launched its initial public offering to public investors on June 12.
“Musk wants to own and control more of the AI ecosystem, and step by step the holy grail could be combining SpaceX and Tesla in some way to give the connected tissue between both disruptive tech stalwarts looking to lead the AI revolution,” says Dan Ives, principal analyst at Wedbush Securities.
