The coronation of King Charles III will officially take place at Westminster Abbey at 11am on Saturday, May 6 after the royals arrive in procession from Buckingham Palace, you can read more about the schedule here. To mark the momentous occasion, the UK has been given an extra day off in May with a bank holiday.

If this is the case it's worth checking supermarket opening times as many stores alter their hours over bank holiday weekends to give their staff some much-needed time off.

Below we've compiled a list of opening times you can expect, however, as always, opening hours can vary depending on the store and location, so you should always check with your local brand before heading there.
Aldi
Aldi has said normal opening hours will remain in place at more than 990 stores on Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7. Stores will close slightly earlier than usual, on bank holiday Monday [May 8] in England and Wales, closing at 8pm, while stores in Scotland will be open until 10pm as usual.
The opening times of some stores may vary, so customers should check their local store on Aldi's website.
Tesco
Tesco stores will operate with normal trading hours over the bank holiday weekend on Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7. The supermarker has said that on bank holiday Monday, opening hours will vary depending on location and store type.
Many of Tescos' large stores across the UK will be operating with reduced hours on Monday, May 8, with the majority of large stores open from 8am to 6pm. Some may be open until 8pm.

Sainsbury's
On Saturday, the day of King Charles' Coronation, Sainsbury's superstores will be open at either 6am or 7am and will shut at either 10pm or 11pm. On Sunday, Sainsbury's will operate normal Sunday trading hours in England in Wales.
Sainsbury's has told WalesOnline that on bank holiday Monday the vast majority of its supermarkets will be open from 8am until 8pm, with convenience stores open as usual from 7am to 11pm.
Opening hours can vary though, so Sainsbury's is advising customers to check its store locator for the latest details for their area.
Morrisons
On Saturday and Sunday, Morrisons will be trading under their normal hours. On the Coronation bank holiday Monday, Morrisons has said the majority of its stores will be open from 7am until 8pm in England and Wales.

Waitrose
On Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, most Waitrose & Partners shops will trade normal hours.
On Monday, May 8, the majority of Waitrose & Partners shops will be open from 8am to 6pm, with some Little Waitrose shops opening from 07am to 10pm. Before visiting your local shop, Waitrose is encouraging customers to check the opening times of their local branch here.
Asda
Asda will be operating under normal hours over the coronation weekend, however, it's worth noting Asda's 24-hour sites will close at 10pm on Saturday.
On bank holiday Monday, the majority of Asda stores will be opening between 7am to 8pm. You can find your nearest Asda with the supermarket's locator tool here.
