Arctic Monkeys Glasgow gig 'confirmed' after band set for Glastonbury appearance

Fans of Arctic Monkeys have been worried that the highly-anticipated Glasgow gig may not go ahead this weekend after lead singer, Alex Turner, was diagnosed with laryngitis resulting in their Dublin show being cancelled.

However, in a good news update for locals, and those travelling to Glasgow to see them, it seems the gig will go ahead after their appearance at Glastonbury tonight was confirmed by festival boss Emily Eavis. Hopefully Alex has made a full recovery and will play Glasgow on Sunday after the Glasto performance.

The festival is set to take place across the weekend with Arctic Monkeys headlining tonight (June 23). The band are also set to play at Glasgow's Bellahouston Park on Sunday, June 25 just a few days after preforming at the festival.

Putting minds at ease, festival boss Emily Eavis revealed the news this morning.

Zoe Ball asked about the band and voiced fan concerns on Radio 2 this morning saying: "Now Arctic Monkeys, we’ve all been concerned about Alex, he’s had laryngitis.

"And listeners have been messaging in asking will it happen? If it doesn’t happen, what’s the contingency plan? Someone has spotted a giant mirror ball on its way here."

Emily replied: "That’s a very good spot."

Zoe said: "Emily, do you know what the latest is for the band?"

Emily told her: "He’s definitely – they’re on."

"It was a little bit close there for a minute and we were thinking about whether we should have a serious backup plan in place but no, thankfully they’re on so that is great."

The indie-rock band are scheduled to wow music lovers in the south side of the city with Glasgow City Council having issued a warning to road users with restrictions clashing during the time the band are performing. This will also affect those attending the Muse gig tonight and the Guns N'Roses concert on Tuesday (June 27).
