Archie Brown on Rangers transfer 'list' as Celtic also check out Lausanne left back

Archie Brown has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for both Rangers and Celtic.

The Birmingham-born left back came through the academy ranks at Derby County, but opted to head to Lusanne in Switzerland two years ago in order to play regular first team football. Now the Daily Mail reports that both Glasgow clubs have been checking out the defender, who turns 21 this weekend. With two years left on his contract, either would need to pay a fee to land Brown.

He’s been added to a list of targets at Ibrox as Michael Beale gets busy in the transfer market after a trophyless season in Govan. Borna Barisic’s future at the club is far from guaranteed, while last summer’s £5million summer signing Ridvan Yilmaz has struggled to make an impact since arriving from Besiktas. That means left back is an area under review and Brown is one option being looked at as the club plans ahead and looks to the longer term.

Brown is seen as a similar type of development opportunity to Calvin Bassey. He was pikedup from the fringes of Leicester’s squad and turned into a £19million pound player, making a club record move to Ajax.

Celtic have also been keeping tabs. Greg Taylor is the first pick on the left-hand side of another title winning back four. However, deputy Alexandro Bernabei is yet to fully settle into life at Parkhead since a summer switch from Argentina last year. A more reliable alternative may be required and Brown fits the bill in terms of age and profile.
