Archie Battersbee’s parents hope for 'dignified' death in hospice after fight to save son

Archie Battersbee's mum and dad have concluded their fight to save their son who has been in a coma for weeks. Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee claim they should be allowed decide if the 12-year-old takes his final moments in a hospice or a hospital ward.

They had until 9am today, Thursday August 4, to submit a legal challenge to transfer him to a hospice. The schoolboy has been in a coma since he was found unconscious by his mother in April.

Ms Dance claimed the hospital previously told them they would be able to move Archie to a hospice but then they "just totally went back on their word". Archie is currently being kept alive by a combination of medical interventions, including ventilation and drug treatments, at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, East London.
