Archery champion who fled the war in Ukraine without her equipment to be given new kit thanks to generous Welsh community

She was forced to flee her home country of Ukraine as war broke out, taking only the absolute essentials with her as she came to Wales to seek refuge. Kate Andrusenko is currently being hosted by a family near Swansea, but back at home she showed immense promise to forge a career in archery, with the 20-year-old winning national competitions and being trained by Ukrainian National Coach Oleg Osypenko.

When she came to south Wales, she had to leave her archery kit behind, and although she is settling into Welsh life, she misses the discipline of training and being involved in competition.

Step forward Welsh archery club Perriswood Bowmen, located near Oxwich in Gower, which has launched a GoFundMe campaign to try and provide equipment to replace the bow, arrows and other equipment that she could not bring with her, and allow Miss Andrusenko to be able to fully re-engage with her sport and in turn help her regain a sense of normality and happiness.
