Aqib Talib’s brother suspect in fatal shooting of Texas youth football coach

The brother of former NFL DB and Amazon studio analyst Aqib Talib is wanted for the murder of a Texas youth football coach.

Yaqub Talib is wanted by Lancaster (Tx) police after a fight at a game  Saturday led to gunshots and the death of 43-year-old Michael Hickmon, 43.

Lancaster city spokesperson Scott Finley said authorities believe Yaqub Talib was the suspected shooter.

The Dallas Morning News reported an argument took place and nearby a fight broke out. That was followed by the sound of several gunshots.

Police said responding officers were told of a “disagreement among the coaching staff and the officiating crew,” according to a news release.

Aqib Talib’s attorney provided a statement to TMZ:

“Aqib was present when this unfortunate incident occurred and is very distraught and devastated over this terrible loss of life. He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy.”

The Topeka Capital-Journal ran a profile of Aqib Talib and it detailed his relationship with his older brother Yaqub.

“The only person that ever messed with Aqib while I was here was his brother,” Jim Ledford, the high school football coach of Aqib Talib said in 2007. “Aqib went and spouted off something to Yaqub one day, next thing I know Aqib comes back and his eye’s dotted and he’s cut up, and we’re all making fun of him then. That mouth overloaded that rear end.”

Aqib Talib credited his brother for keeping him out of trouble. He was a player on the Super Bowl 50 champion Denver Broncos.

“My parents, they worked a lot and stuff, so my big brother was always kinda the one at the house, telling me what to do,” Aqib Talib said. “He kept me out of a lot of trouble and kept my head on straight.”

Aqib Talib played for five NFL teams from 2008-2019.

Anyone with information on Yaqub Talib’s whereabouts should call Detective Senad Deranjic at 972-218-2756.
