Apprentice winner's mum pays touching tribute on BBC Two's You're Fired

The winner of this year's series of The Apprentice has been crowned. And no sooner had Harpreet Kaur been revealed as Lord Alan Sugar's latest business partner on BBC One tonight (Thursday, March 24), than she was being interviewed alongside the billionaire over on BBC Two.

Harpreet appeared with runner-up Kathryn Burn on The Apprentice: You're Fired. This week's episode was appropriately titled You're Hired - reflecting the fact that Lord Sugar picked Harpreet to receive a £250,000 investment in her dessert parlour venture Oh So Yum.

She told You're Fired's host Tom Allen that winning was "amazing", adding: "Genuinely a dream come true. I'm really happy."

Lord Sugar was interviewed live from Florida. He said: "It was a very tough decision of course between two worthy finalists. I felt that Harpreet's performance and business together as a package deal merited her being my partner this particular year."

Karren Brady, Lord Sugar's aide on The Apprentice, was a guest on You're Fired too. She said Harpreet was a "driving force, full of passion and enthusiasm."

Harpreet's mum Jas was in the audience as well and said she felt "very proud". "She's done amazingly," she said. "She's always got drive and focus and a vision. As a child she's always watched The Apprentice, she's always wanted to be on it. She had a dream and a vision and she's successfully made it happen."

Harpreet agreed, saying: "It's been my favourite TV show ever. I've always wanted to do it."

Meanwhile Kathryn, who runs a pyjama business, said: "Obviously I'm a little disappointed but I'm just so happy for Harpreet. It was so nice to get to the end with her."

She also suggested she would send Lord Sugar some of her nightwear. Kathryn quipped that she believed he was fond of wearing pyjamas.

Viewers had their say on Twitter while the follow-up programme aired.

Jess @jessstoreyxxx said: "Most upset Kathryn didn’t win. I’d buy her pj’s in bulk with different designs for sure keeping a look out for her!"

Dave Wick @Caesermyn3 said: "Huge congrats to @Lord_Sugar's newest business partner Harpreet @harpsikaur! A worthy winner of #TheApprentice 2022 with her dessert business."

Dodo Meka @dodolady4eva: "#TheApprentice congratulations Harpreet. Was so worried when you sat in the meeting and your eyes were welling up, glad you won, well deserved."
