Apprentice winner Alana Spencer closing Welsh cafe 'for a while' as she thanks customers

A Welsh businesswoman and cafe owner, who won feisty BBC One entrepreneur show The Apprentice in 2016, says she is temporarily closing her Aberystwyth cafe for the winter. Ridiculously Rich is a luxury handmade cake company led by 30-year-old Alana Spencer , who received an £250,000 investment from Alan Sugar as the result of her victory on the reality show.

The company has cafes across Wales serving up not just brownies and sweet treats - although there are those in abundance - but savoury sandwiches and loaded fries too. But on Saturday, November 26, she announced the news that Alana Môr, which opened in May 2021, would be taking a break.

Posting the message to her 50.5K followers on Instagram, the entrepreneur, who regularly features in Wales' - and the UK's - many summer food festivals and Christmas markets, wrote alongside a stormy picture of the business's first 'By The Sea' store front: "With the weather getting more grizzly, the storms getting more fierce and the days getting darker we have made the decision to close Aberystwyth cafe by the sea until 2023. With the exception of a few days around Christmas time (dates tbc)."

She added: "I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our customers this year! It’s been a tough year for businesses so your support is so greatly appreciated! Tomorrow (Sunday 27th) will be our last day for a while. Then we hope to be open the week around Christmas time for hot choccies and prom walkies (dates tbc). Then it will be goodbye from us until 2023. You will still be able to come and grab cakes from us at the bakery on Friday and we plan to get @deliveryshark_ set up at the bakery so you can still order from us. So much love and appreciation."

While the Aberystwyth store is going to shut its door until next year, it seems her other stores in Llandudno, Caernarfon and Carmarthen will remain open to keep your sweet tooth(s) satiated.
