Apple has been granted a patent for a new type of iPhone chassis that is said to be so scratch-resistant that it may not need a case.
The breakthrough sees Apple turning to a "spatial composite" that would combine the strength of metal with the scratch resistance of ceramic. This is designed to make the iPhone’s outer body more resistant to wear and tear, and could potentially eliminate the need for a case.
