Apple iPhone launch event turns out to be AI-generated fake after it fooled Twitter

A leaked Apple event that appeared to be a launch party for a new bronze iPhone 16 has turned out to be fake.

A prankster has claimed responsibility for a poster which fooled the internet, which he says was made in 10 minutes because he was “bored”.

Twitter user Lore said he was behind the bogus leak that spread around social media this week and had technology fans excited for a possible new product.

“I made the "leaked" Apple event invite in less than 10 minutes using figma and an AI generated texture,” the instigator tweeted.

“I sent it to the leaker just because I was bored.”

He added the story he invented, about to how he got hold of the invite, was “quite stupid”.

Lore posted a video of his Photoshop skills and also a direct message conversation with the leaker, Majin Bu.

The invitation was for a supposed launch event on September 10 at the Steve Jobs Theatre in California, US, and carried the heading ‘Ready. Set. Capture’.

More than 460,000 saw the post when Bu sent it live on Monday.

He wrote: “According to what I was told by a source who asked to remain anonymous, the new Apple event where the iPhone 16 will be presented.

“I have no way of verifying that this information is real, but it all seems very plausible.”

Both Lore and Bu had acknowledged the event was fake the following day.

“I really liked the fake Apple event invite, so I decided to make a wallpaper, enjoy,” Bu added later.

The Apple iPhone 16 has recently been speculated and is said to be arriving with a greater memory than its predecessor as well as an inbuilt AI system.

The company has also been under pressure to make its calls clearer following criticism that the quality has been inferior to its rivals.
