Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak rushed to hospital in Mexico after 'possible stroke'

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has been taken to hospital after suffering a possible stroke while in Mexico, local news outlets report.

Mr Wozniak, 73, had been in Mexico City to take part in a World Business Forum event in the capital's Santa Fe neighbourhood on Wednesday afternoon.

The tech entrepreneur and scientist was scheduled to speak just before 4.30pm local time.

US media outlet TMZ, citing sources with direct knowledge, reported that Mr Wozniak told his wife he was "feeling strange". She reportedly insisted he go to the hospital.

The TMZ report said Mr Wozniak may have suffered vertigo.

A source from the forum said that he fainted at the event, according to the CNN news website.

In 1976, Mr Wozniak founded Apple Computer company along with Steve Jobs, the acclaimed investor and longtime Apple CEO who died in 2011.

Their business pioneered personal computing and went on to be the world's most valuable company, known for the design and functionality of a range of consumer electronics, including laptop and desktop computers, and the iPhone.

In March Elon Musk and Mr Wozniak were among tech leaders who urged scientists to pause developing artificial intelligence to ensure it does not pose a risk to humanity.

Tech chiefs have signed an open letter demanding all labs stop training AI systems for at least six months.

World Business Forum has been approached for comment.
