Apple just revealed a whole treasure trove of information about its plans for the 2026 Formula 1 season, and there are some major headlines. Top of the list is a major partnership with Netflix. This will bring season 8 of the hit Netflix series "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" to Apple TV starting tomorrow (Feb. 27), the same time it drops on Netflix. In return, Netflix subscribers will get access to the broadcast of the Canadian Grand Prix, which is a big win for Netflix users.
In case you missed it, last year, Apple TV won the U.S. rights to F1 for the 2026 season and beyond. Starting this year, Apple TV is the exclusive U.S. home for broadcasts and replays of F1 practice sessions, qualifying for both Sprints and Grands Prix, Sprint races, and Grand Prix races. Some of those races and all practice sessions will be available to stream for free in the Apple TV app and F1 TV Premium will be free to those with an Apple TV subscription.
But the big question mark was "Drive to Survive." Now that has been answered, but we've also learned about upcoming partnerships with Tubi and IMAX, new multiview features and so much more.
Netflix, Tubi and IMAX are joining in on the F1 fun with Apple
I'll dive into all the technical details of the 2026 F1 experience on Apple's host of apps, but real quick, I want to highlight the partnerships that Apple's senior vice president of Services, Eddy Cue, announced in a virtual press briefing I attended today. I think these partnerships not only have the potential to grow the sport, but save you some money if you're considering getting into F1 but don't want to commit to an Apple TV subscription.
I already covered the Netflix details: "Drive to Survive" season 8 is coming to Apple TV as well as Netflix, and the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix is coming to Netflix in addition to Apple TV. But that's not the only streaming service that will get in on the F1 fun with Apple. Cue revealed that Tubi, one of the best free streaming services, will also be partnering with Apple. An Apple spokesperson clarified that this would come in the form of "altcasts" for select races that will be free to stream on Tubi.
IMAX will also be getting a selection of races at select IMAX theaters, per Apple. Unfortunately, more details aren't available yet, so stay tuned.
Multiview, 4K, Dolby Vision and more coming to F1 on Apple TV
OK, now you know all the places where you can watch F1 this season, but let's dive into the how.
One of the biggest features announced by Apple today, which will be broadcasting the F1 TV feed in 4K, with Dolby Vision and 5.1 surround audio, is that there will be 30 additional feeds you can stream during the broadcast. This includes a driver tracker, a driver data feed, feeds for P1, P2 and P3 drivers and a dedicated feed for each of the 22 drivers on the grid.
Thanks to multiview, you'll be able to watch up to four of these feeds at once on Apple TV 4K and iPad. If you're watching on an Apple Vision Pro, you'll be able to watch up to 5 feeds simultaneously. This includes curated multiviews such as a P1-P3 Multiview, team specfic feeds, etc. You'll even be able to access the Sky One broadcast as one of the feeds, if you prefer Sky's F1 commentary.
Finally, there are some Apple app synergies that Apple teased when it first announced the F1 deal last year. On race day, the race will be the first thing you see on the Apple TV home page, and you can go right into the race from the home page (it will also autoplay). The Apple Sports app will give you a live leaderboard from which you can launch the live race feed on Apple TV. It will also create live activities that appear automatically on iPhone and Apple Watch at race starts.
There will also be an F1 widget for the home screen, and Apple News will offer a live feed of the race in the Formula 1 news coverage section of its app. Apple Maps will expand F1 race maps to Melbourne this year (it was previously limited to Monaco) and finally, Apple Music will get a live broadcast commentary feed for free on Apple Radio, as well as a dedicated F1 hub with curated playlists.
