Apple and Google facing massive backlash after caving to Trump’s ‘Lake America’ map decree

Apple Google Lake America Donald Trump Lake Ontario

Apple has agreed to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America in its Maps app after direct pressure and an executive order from President Donald Trump.
Google previously renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America for U.S. users, after both companies earlier relabeled the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum confirmed that President Trump personally reached out to Apple regarding the requested name change.
Both Apple and Google faced public backlash from social media influencers and progressive media outlets for complying with the order.
MapQuest publicly refused to alter the name of Lake Ontario, resulting in a surge of downloads that made it the top navigation app in the App Store.
