Appeal as Ben Nevis climbers leave beer cans and rotten food at summit

• Visitors to Ben Nevis have been urged to take their rubbish home after an emergency summit shelter was found strewn with beer cans, cigarette packets and mouldy food.
• The John Muir Trust, which manages the mountain, revealed that volunteers are forced to remove hundreds of kilograms of waste from Ben Nevis each year.
• Waste levels on the peak have reportedly worsened since the Covid pandemic, with more than 160,000 people climbing Ben Nevis annually.
