Appeal after plans for 'party' holiday let in Bootle refused

An appeal has been launched after plans for a holiday let in the middle of Bootle was refused by Sefton Council.

The application for permission to run a six person holiday home on Waller Street in Bootle was rejected by the council earlier this year.

A Sefton Council planning officer’s report published in April said there had been multiple objections received from local residents and councillors concerned the plans could be “harmful” to the local area.

One resident said the area was “not a tourist attraction”. It was also claimed the planning application was an attempt to get round a directive in place called Article 4, which is aimed at reducing the number of houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) in the area.

The application was for retrospective permission and one resident said there were ongoing problems from the address which had left neighbours “fed up with late night parties and anti-social behaviour.”

The report stated the street was made up of two bed terrace houses that were generally suited to small families, with the adverts online for the property offering a holiday let for six people out of keeping with both the size of the home and the local area.

Officers said the change of use application involved an “intensification” of normal usage for such a house – with the risk of noise and disruption from people with “little regard on the impact on a neighbourhood they have no long-term connection with.”

According to a report produced ahead of a Sefton Council planning meeting due to be held next week, the applicants have lodged an appeal against the refusal. The planning inspectorate will now look at the case and decide whether to dismiss the appeal or grant permission for the holiday let.
