Police have issued an appeal to the public to help trace a man who drove a motorbike at an officer.

Officers were on patrol in Wythburn Place in Gateshead shortly before 3.20pm on May 5. They spotted a motorist on an electric motocross bike, who they asked to stop.

Instead of stopping, the man reportedly drove directly at the officer, knocking him over, before fleeing the scene on foot. The officer sustained minor injuries and an investigation to trace the man was launched.

As part of their enquiries, police have now issued an image of a man who was in the area at the time of the incident, and could have information which can assist in the investigation.

The man, or anyone who knows him, or thinks they can assist officers are asked to get in touch by calling 101 or using the Tell us Something page quoting crime reference 52418T/22.
