Anya Taylor-Joy has confirmed she secretly married Malcolm McRae two years ago in New Orleans.
On Tuesday, the actress, 27, shared previously unseen photos from the big day in 2022, including “anatomically correct” cakes shaped like human hearts, complete with pools of blood.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote alongside the post: “Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever.
“Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest. N.B yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat.”
The social media post featured images of the Menu star wearing a Dior gown embroidered with hummingbirds and thistles as she posed with pal Cara Delevingne while another saw the couple dining on heart cakes with pools of scarlet icing.
A video shows the actress covering her face with her veil in front of a backdrop covered with candles.
US musician McRae, frontman of the rock band More, shared his own photos from the day and wrote: “I love you now and somehow I always have and somehow it will never end. Happy two year anniversary (yesterday), beautiful.”
It was rumoured the couple had tied the knot in October 2023, when photos emerged of a celebration in Venice, Italy, which was reported to be their wedding.
Photos from their Italian event show Taylor-Joy apparently wearing the same dress seen in pictures from the New Orleans ceremony.
The Hollywood star has rarely spoken about her relationship with McRae since they began dating.
Despite residing on opposite sides of the Atlantic, Taylor-Joy, primarily based in London, and Mcrae, who juggles acting, music, and living in the US, have successfully maintained a strong and healthy relationship.
Opening up about their life together, she told British Vogue in March 2022: “I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby.
“I see reading as something that I have to do. He loved it because he’s the same.
“I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We’re basically 80 years old and seven at the same time and it works really well.”
Responding to a question about being long distance, she added: “Yes, it is [hard], but it’s also kind of great because when you’re together you’re really valuing the time that you have.
“Everyday mundane activities are so full of joy. I love going to the petrol station with him and filling up.”
The screen star was born in Miami moved to Buenos Aires as a toddler before relocating to London at the age of six “for political reasons” with her parents, banker father Dennis - a Scot born in South America - and Spanish-English mother Jennifer, a psychologist who hails from Zambia.
