Phillip Schofield is trying to 'promote his historic friendship' with Holly Willoughby, according to a body language expert.
The pair are back on This Morning after reports of a bitter feud, which has left some wondering about Phil's future on the show.
Body language expert Judi James has been analysing the father-of-two's behaviour on the programme today and reckons Phil, 61, is trying hard to convince viewers he and Holly, 42, are still pals.
She says: "He sounded keen to promote messages of historic friendship with Holly and the fact that they are, contrary to rumour, speaking behind the scenes. He told her she is good at parking the car and he referred to the fact that 'We were talking about this before the show'.
"His gestures became emphatic with this last point, when he turned to her and stabbed his index finger down on the table as though literally wanting to nail the rumours."
Rumours are rife the pair aren't speaking off-screen with Holly said to have been 'deeply upset' after Phil released a statement saying "the last few weeks haven't been easy for either of us".
They haven't made reference to their reported feud on the show so far this week, but Judi said: "Phil performed signals that suggested inner anxiety today."
Suggesting he looked "less perky and more subdued", she noted his body language was 'in contrast with his confident splaying the day before'.
Holly meanwhile, who is yet to comment on reports the pair aren't getting on, looked more relaxed than she did on Monday, according to Judi.
She said the mum-of-three was 'using more gesticulation and even performing a playful pose when Phil said her dress looked like a meadow'.
However, when the pair were sat around table, the cracks may have been beginning to show as Judi said: "There was a small hint of impatience in the metronomic foot tapping we could see when the others were talking."
Phil's future remains in question on This Morning as ITV was reportedly left reeling after he made his impromptu statement, where he explained that Holly had been his pal through "thick and thin".
However, fans are pointing out the tension and lack of chemistry between the pair as one tweeted: "Holly and Phil are giving the same vibes as when your Mum and Dad have a blazing row before a family party then try to act normal once they arrive #ThisMorning".
Another added: "It’s actually so awkward watching Phil and Holly put on a united front. Holly’s doing well but Phil looks so on edge. Glazing over a weekend of dire headlines for ITV is not working. Time to go Philip. #ThisMorning"
"You can cut the tension between Phil & Holly with a knife today! #ThisMorning," a third remarked.
