Antony explains Manchester United goal celebration vs Arsenal

Antony has explained why he posed with tiger claws after scoring his first Manchester United goal against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 22-year-old could not have asked for a better start to life as a United player when he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner past Aaron Ramsdale.

It had been well documented during the last few weeks of the transfer window that Antony was doing everything he could to make the move to Manchester, including going on 'strike' as he declared himself unavailable for selection for Ajax matches. You could see just how excited United's new number 21 was to be at the club the minute the ball hit the back of the net.

Antony thumped the United badge with his fist, as he then clawed and kissed the crest in a passionate display towards the fans. However, it was what followed next that left some supporters scratching their heads.

After the celebrations had calmed down, the winger gestured to the camera with tiger claws. Speaking to club media, Antony explained: "It's a friends thing. So when I score a goal, my friends know what it is, it's a tiger. They know and that's how I celebrate."

Antony also explained what it was like to experience his first match at Old Trafford as a United player and what it was like to score on his debut.

He added: "To score my first goal and share this moment with the crowd, with a great atmosphere, was brilliant. From the moment I stepped on to the pitch, I already had goosebumps because I know how much I wanted to be here and I know how much the crowd wanted this. When I saw the ball going in, and the net shaking, I express all my feelings the way I did. Yes, it gave me goosebumps for sure."
