Antony at Carrington ahead of Manchester United transfer

Antony was at Carrington on Monday ahead of completing his move from Ajax to Manchester United.

United will formally announce Antony's move at some point over the next couple of days, with the Brazilian linking back up with Erik ten Hag in a €100million deal.

Ten Hag signed Antony for Ajax in 2020 and the pair won back-to-back Eredivisie titles together with Ajax.

For most of the summer, United were reluctant to meet Ajax's valuation of Antony and club figures doubted a deal was doable at the start of July.

United's disastrous defeats to Brighton and Brentford prompted more proactive movement in the transfer market, though, with Casemiro signed for a fee rising to £70m despite Ten Hag's fixation on Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Antony made public his desire to leave Ajax before Thursday's transfer deadline, and Ten Hag is desperate to add a left-footed right-sided forward to his squad in order to bring better balance and creativity to the attacking line.

There is an acceptance at United that they already have a lot of similar attackers, with Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga all preferring roles as inverted left-sided forwards.

Antony was omitted from Ajax's squad for their recent Eredivisie games against Sporta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht.

Speaking after Ajax's game against Utrecht on Sunday, the Dutch team's manager Alfred Schreuder said: "Nowadays, everything is about money and I think this is sad. this our world, it's very sad and I don't approve that these things are happening to us."
