This week, Davante Adams returned to the team after missing the previous week of camp and the first preseason game to be at home for the birth of his son.
Upon returning, he was asked about whether he would like to play in the team’s second preseason in Las Vegas against the Dallas Cowboys. To which he responded “If I’m choosing, I’m not playing.”
The thing is, he’s not choosing. The coach decides who plays in the preseason. That coach is Antonio Pierce and in the first preseason game, all healthy players took the field, including all expected starters, regardless of veteran status.
Pierce said unequivocally, regardless of Adams’s preference, he will be taking the same approach for this week’s preseason game.
“No, if you’re healthy, you’ll play,” said Pierce.
Adams had mentioned that he hadn’t played in a preseason game since 2017. Looks like his streak of non-preseason play is going to end on Saturday night.
