Former Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson has signed a three-year contract with the New England Patriots at the onset of NFL free agency. The deal is worth $11.25 million, with $5.3 million guaranteed, including a $3 million signing bonus.
Gibson, known for his versatility on the field, has played multiple positions throughout his football career, excelling as a wide receiver, return specialist, and running back. He showcased his skills at East Central Community College and the University of Memphis, earning accolades in the American Athletic Conference.
Transitioning to the NFL as a third-round pick in 2020, Gibson has made significant contributions in his 61 games played, accumulating 29 touchdowns. During his time with Washington, he amassed 2,643 rushing yards, 1,283 receiving yards, and 826 kickoff return yards. Notably, Gibson has also been lauded for his pass protection abilities, boasting a top blocking grade among his draft class.
Expressing gratitude towards Washington for the opportunity, Gibson emphasized the importance of a fresh start with the Patriots. He aims to compete and contribute to the running back room, which includes Rhamondre Stevenson, Kevin Harris, JaMycal Hasty, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn.
