Antonio Conte told which Tottenham player should take up a new position after failed transfer

Tottenham legend Graham Roberts has told Antonio Conte the new position he believes Lucas Moura should be given a chance in.

Spurs are currently seventh in the Premier League, two points off fourth-place Manchester United and with two games in hand. Before a return to their busy schedule in the league, though, the Lilywhites will face Brighton for the first time this season, in the FA Cup.

Tottenham beat Morecambe, after trailing 1-0, in the previous round whilst Brighton have progressed after a victory over West Brom.

On deadline day, Spurs announced the signings of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur and both will want to make an instant impact on the Italian's side.

Conte's transfer window priorities were a right wing-back, central midfielder and striker, with only one of those being ticked off the list with the signing of the duo.

After Barcelona swooped in and signed Tottenham target Adama Traore, Fabio Paratici failed to secure a deal with anyone else in that role.

This may have also been influenced by the fact Matt Doherty remained in north London, despite rumours of him being one of the potential players to make an exit.

The wing-back duo have both had their opportunity to impress Conte, with Doherty producing an impressive performance against Leicester and Emerson Royal often being first choice in the starting XI.

However, both have also highlighted that there is work that needs to be done, specifically with their attacking play, and this has sparked conversation about Moura being given a chance in that role instead.

"Just putting it out there, why doesn’t our manager try Moura at right wing back?" Roberts said on Twitter on Tuesday. "He’s quick, good player and he can cross the ball.

"I think it’s worth a go maybe against Brighton? What do you all think?"

Roberts then had a mixture of responses from Spurs fans with some questioning the Brazilian's defensive ability and others thinking it is worth a try.

Moura has made 29 appearances for Tottenham so far this season, scoring six goals and registering five assists, playing mostly in wide roles.

The 29-year-old has also played in various attacking positions but hasn't had experience playing in a more defensive position.

However, the Brazilian has already shown this season that he can have a presence in defence as despite only being 5 foot 6, he has made ten headed clearances.

Moura has also made the sixth most tackles in the Tottenham team, more than a number of the defensive players.

Royal, Doherty and Moura all featured in the 3-2 victory over Leicester and even though the latter did play the full 90 minutes, with the other two only playing 45 minutes each, the Brazilian still got three crosses into the box, more than the duo combine.

As Roberts explains, Moura is quick and when Spurs are lacking creativity, the Brazilian is often the man to try and add some drive in a game and so he wouldn't have a problem travelling up and down the wing.

The former PSG player has already shown his attacking flare and although his defensive abilities may not be at the required level yet, he is quick on his feet and always puts in 100 per cent.

So, if the usual duo aren't making enough impact and Kulusevski occupies one of the positions in the front line, then could the switch in position be worth a try?
