Antonio Conte reveals why Tottenham signed Richarlison as he reflects on ‘positive’ debut

Antonio Conte was full of praise for Richarlison after the Brazilian made his Tottenham debut.

Richarlison started against a K-League XI and played 77 minutes in Seoul as Spurs got their pre-season campaign underway with a 6-3 win.

A combination of injury and illness meant that fellow new signings Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster were not involved, though they are expected to join up with the rest of the squad soon.

Following his £60million move from Everton there will be plenty of attention on Richarlison, as he looks to make his mark in a front-line that shone at the end of last seasn to fire Tottenham into the Champions League.

His manager was impressed with his first outing in a Spurs shirt, as Conte outlined the versatility he can bring to the squad.

“Today I’ve seen a lot of positive things about Richy,” Conte said after the match.

“The first half he played like a number nine and the second half he played on the right, behind the striker. I think he can play in all these three positions.

“I think he is strong physically and a good personality, good character, good quality. For sure also for Richy in this period he is working and we are working on the tactical aspects with him because he has to go into our idea. At the same time we have to work on the physical aspects for him to be fit.

“But for sure he is a player that gives me important positions up front. He’s a player that is a good player, strong and very good to protect the ball and attack the space. Also he made a good assist, I’m very happy that we signed him.”
