Antonio Conte eyes ideal Tottenham free agent to hand Man Utd Christian Eriksen deal

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is reportedly eyeing a certain Premier League midfielder on a free transfer as Christian Eriksen's Man United move seems inevitable.

The Lilywhites have had arguably one of the best starts to this summer's transfer window out of any of their top six rivals. They have already landed all of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and most recently Richarlison. Djed Spence amongst others could be on their way in the near future but regardless of how rest of this transfer reason unfolds, there is no doubt that this is shaping up to be one of the best transfer periods under the Daniel Levy and ENIC ownership.

Unfortunately, one move which isn't expected to come to fruition this summer is that one of Spurs icon Eriksen returning for what would have been an emotional homecoming. After his life threatening cardiac arrest suffered in the European Championships for Denmark vs Finland, it was highly unlikely that that the 30-year-old would have ever played football again but miracles do happen.

Thomas Frank and Brentford took a chance on the attacking midfielder and that decision paid its dividends as the Dane attained a total of five goal contributions in the 11 games he played for the Bees.

With his short-term contract now up, a decision on his next move was always going to be tricky. He could remain in West London with Frank's side or even start to seek out more Champions League opportunities and that's where Spurs certainly had the advantage over others.

However, with focus on different targets for the north Londoners, Man United and Erik ten Hag have been trying their best to convince Eriksen that Old Trafford is the right place for him in 2022/23. ten Hag and the current free agent also have a good rapport as the former Ajax manager offer him a chance to train with his squad upon the recovery from the heart condition.

Coupled with this, Tottenham's unwillingness to follow up their initial interest has now made it a two way decision for the player in question- Brentford or Man United?

Whilst he continues to mull over this conundrum, Fabio Paratici could be about to find an alternative to satisfy Conte and it's a player who was linked back to the club in January.

Jesse Lingard, like Eriksen is a free agent now, and amid rumours of a potential West Ham return and respective Everton and Newcastle moves, it seems as though Spurs could be the one for him.

This is according to The Telegraph who have reported that the 29-year-old has come under consideration by the hierarchy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and his signing would also appeal attractive to the club as it would improve and add to their homegrown player quota.

Whether or not the fourth placed team for 2021/22 in the Premier League do make huge efforts to sign the former Man United talent remains to be seen but it certainly indicates that there's certainly a lot more to come for Spurs fans to get excited about in this summer's transfer window.
