Antonio Conte eyeing 'exciting' new job this summer - but needs Jose Mourinho to play part

Antonio Conte could seal a return to management this summer with a move to Roma - but only if Jose Mourinho moves on from the Stadio Olimpico.

The Italian was sacked by Tottenham back in March after his scathing comments in the aftermath of a 3-3 draw with Southampton. He was set to be out of contract this summer so would likely have been searching for a new job regardless.

One 'exciting' opportunity could be set to come very quickly with a potential opening in the Italian capital. According to CalcioMercato, the former Inter Milan and Juventus boss could potentially be appointed as the new manager of AS Roma.

The Giallorossi currently employ Portuguese coach Mourinho and he has enjoyed a successful stint at the Stadio Olimpico. He won the Europa Conference League with victory over Feyenoord during his debut campaign in Rome.

Mourinho also has the side firmly involved in the fight for a place back in the Champions League next term, whilst they have also reached the Europa League quarter-finals this season. However, he could be set to move on as French giants Paris Saint-Germain potentially plot a swoop for him.

The Ligue 1 side’s current boss Christophe Galtier could be let go sooner rather than later despite looking set to win another league title. The French side have disappointed once again in the Champions League.

Roma does not appear to be the only option for Conte, however. It is suggested that both of his former clubs Juventus and Inter Milan would consider him but the financial situations of each of the Italian giants put a move - in the immediate future at the very least - in serious doubt.

A statement from the Italian in the aftermath of his Spurs departure last month read: "Football is passion. I would like to deeply thank everyone at SPURS who appreciated and shared my passion and my intense way of living football as a coach.

"A special thought to the Fans who always showed me support and appreciation, it’s been unforgettable to hear them singing my name. Our journey together has ended, I wish you all the best for the future."

Conte’s previous spells in Serie A have more often than not been hugely successful. He won three league titles with Juventus, adding to that haul during his stint with Inter Milan.

It is further suggested that should he return with Roma, then club chiefs would be willing to offer him freedom in the transfer market as they aim to end their near 25-year wait for a Serie A title.
