Antonio Conte has outlined Joe Rodon's desire to play in the World Cup as the main factor for the Tottenham defender's impending season-long loan move to Rennes. A regular in the Spurs squad last campaign, minutes were extremely hard to come by for the Wales international as he only made three Premier League appearances across the season.
Needing to get regular game time ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Rodon has not made the trip to Israel with the rest of his Tottenham teammates for the friendly against Roma so he can instead complete a move to French side Rennes. Speaking ahead of the game on Saturday evening, Conte opened up on the 24-year-old and his switch to Ligue 1.
"Yeah Joe Rodon is another good player and don't forget that in November there is the World Cup and many players want to play and play regularly. Also to prepare themselves for this important competition," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"I think that when the thoughts from the club and the players are the same we try to find the best solution for both."
Rodon has made a total of 24 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Swansea City back in October 2020.
