It was an ideal afternoon for Antonio Colak who struck his first Rangers goal in front of an Ibrox home crowd.
The Croation striker had not quite impressed during his first two appearances for the Light Blues but seems to have silenced his doubters - for now - after slotting home early in the second half. Colak 's goal was the first of the afternoon after the hosts battled Kilmarnock 's solid back line to no avail during the first 45.
The strike was sure to boost the 28-year-old's confidence as he looks to bring the same momentum into Tuesday's crucial clash. The Govan outfit welcome Union Saint Gilloise to Ibrox, with the small task of a two goal benefit to turnaround if they have any chance of qualifying for the Champions League group stages. But Colak is a firm believer in his side and reckons the boost of the home support will push Gio van Bronckhorst's men over the line.
Speaking to Rangers TV after the game, Colak said: “An unbelievable moment, of course. In front of our fans to score here at Ibrox, I think it was the best feeling for me. And it was a really important one.
“It is good to start (the season) with a goal, for a striker especially, but the most important thing is that we won today and we take the three points. These are the chances you have to take because in these games you don’t get too many chances so I’m really happy that I scored and now I want to continue in that way.
“Every time I enter the pitch, I get goosebumps. I tried to take the energy from the fans, they push us all the time. And I think that is a big reason why we are so successful."
When asked about how he and his teammates are feeling about Tuesday's Champions League third round qualifying clash second leg, the striker was full of optimism.
He added: “European nights at Ibrox are special. We are really confident that we are going to turn it on Tuesday. We will go with over 100 per cent and we know we can change this result.”
