The Arizona Cardinals announced a few roster moves Thursday. Two were moving players from the active roster to injured reserve.
They placed receiver Antoine Wesley and safety Charles Washington on injured reserve, meaning they will be out at least the first four games of the season.
Wesley suffered a groin/hip injury early in training camp and made progress but still needs time to recover. There was a possibility he would need surgery.
Washington injured his chest in the team’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
The earliest they can return is is Week 5, when the Cardinals host the Philadephia Eagles.
They had to make the active roster initially to be eligible to return at all this season. Players placed on IR before final rosters are set are done for the season. By waiting until after active rosters were set, both could be eligible to return. Teams are able to designate up to eight players from IR/NFI this year.
