Antiques Road Trip presenter reveals royal nickname

Antiques expert David Harper has revealed his "very royal" nickname based on his somewhat unique middle name.

On the latest episode of the popular BBC One daytime antiques show, David was driving around the Dorset with Catherine Southon looking to make a profit on vintage knick knacks.

On the trip, the pair got chatting about middle names. While Catherine revealed hers to be Louise, David had a relatively unique one up his sleeve.

David said: "You can't really make a nickname out of Louise. Mine is Kingsley." Scolding Catherine's reaction, he added: "Don't pull a face when you say it!"

Catherine said it was a "strange one" and said she's "never heard of it before". David also revealed his pet name: "My nickname at home was Kings."

Catherine said: "I bet you loved that being very royal!"

Elsewhere on the show, David bought himself a cat ornament, which he claimed was from the 1960s. He said: "I adore handmade, craftsman made pieces.

David fell in love with the cat ornament, which made him a £12 profit (BBC One)

"The marks in the clay where it's been cut and trimmed, finger marks where its been shaped; all evidence of something that's been handmade."

He bought the cat for £30 alongside an 18th Dutch Delft vase, spending a total of £80.

On day two he picked up a "cracking lump of proper antique" - a Japanese vase from between 1868 and 1912. Priced at £60 he managed to haggle it down to £50 and also picked up a led garden set for £60. His fifth pick was a £45 door knocker.

Catherine had £292 to spend and her five lots included an iron and wood clothe rail although auctioneer Michael Darwin said he was struggling to think of someone who would buy such a thing.

However, David's beloved cat fetched him just £42, although he was positive about the outcome: "It's a tidy profit on paper."

At the end of the trip, David had £346.40, while Catherine made the most profit, winning the show with £280.96 after fees.
