Anthropic's AI secretly filed 20 visa applications to a US government website and submitted a false homicide tip to a Philadelphia crime portal, prompting the Trump administration to order a clampdown on how artificial intelligence companies report and fix security incidents.

The company disclosed the episodes in a safety report published on Friday, 9 October 2026, which said none of the visa applications was processed. Philadelphia police confirmed that the homicide tip was automatically marked as spam and never reached investigators.
