Anthony Stewart verdict on Alfredo Morelos branded 'madness' as Rangers confession has pundits miffed

Anthony Stewart’s claim that he’d rather face Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos than his fellow Ibrox marksman Antonio Colak could fire up the Colombian and come back to haunt the Aberdeen skipper.

That is according to former Reds defender Lee Mair and ex- Celtic full back Mark Wilson, who believes the Englishman’s words will have had his Pittodrie team-mates questioning the wisdom of him being so honest in the Speaking at Hampden ahead of the last four clash against Michael Beale’s men, former Wycombe man Stewart was asked who was the better strike and he said he rated Colak more than Morelos, who has scored eight times against the Dons during his time at Ibrox.

Rangers haven’t beaten Aberdeen in any competition since 2004 but Wilson, speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, said: “I don’t know how wise it is. If I was an Aberdeen player I would be saying ‘do you really need to go down that route and be quite personal about it?’ If it was me and a winger said he preferred to play against me instead of someone else I would say ‘Oh is that right? I’ll show you on the day.”

And Mair, who spent two years in the north east, took to social media to say: “Absolute madness that a player would say this about another team in the same league. Never mind a few days before they play that team in a big semi final! Would possibly get away with it if it was a young inexperienced player. But it’s the club captain.”

Stewart said at his press conference: "For me, they are two completely different strikers. I do rate one better than the other, I would say that Colak is a better striker than Morelos, in my opinion. Just their whole round game. I've played against both of them and I can give my opinion on it."
