Anthony Ralston sent Celtic 'go and grasp' chance message in Alistair Johnston start battle

Anthony Ralston has been told to 'go and grasp' his big chance to win his place back in the Celtic starting team.

The Scotland international was brought on by Ange Postecoglou in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Rangers after Alistair Johnston was forced off injured. The January signing was caught on video jumping around in a moon boot with his crutches in the air as the Hoops celebrated their Hampden success over Michael Beale's men with the fans.

Post-match the Aussie boss admitted his full-back took a sore one as he hailed the 'fantastic' job Ralston did when he stepped on to the pitch. Now with Johnston looking like he could miss a period of action for Celtic, former Rangers defender and pundit Alan Hutton has told Ralston it is a good window to remind the manager what he is all about in a bid to force his way back in as first-choice right back.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think it is a good window for Ralston to go and remind the manager. I am sure he is the type of guy who works hard day in day out to try and get back in the squad.

“But you want to go and show the manager that you are capable of handling it and this is a great opportunity to go and do that.

“There are some big games coming up, there is another Old Firm, the final, these are all games he will want to be involved in. So the ball is in his court, go and show the manager that you are capable of doing that.

“Since Johnston came in he has been brilliant and is really going from strength the strength. It will be hard to get him out the team but here is Ralston’s opportunity and he needs to go and grasp it.“
