Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon has hit back at critics who have accused him of diving.
The homegrown star was speaking after he helped England Under-21s secure qualification for Euro 2023 after a 3-0 win over Albania on Tuesday. Gordon appeared in 35 Premier League games for the Toffees last year, scoring four times and assisting two goals. He was crucial in their late season revival under Frank Lampard, playing important roles in the wins over Manchester United [where he scored the winner], Chelsea, Leicester and Crystal Palace.
However, the Kirkdale-born midfielder, who joined Everton as an 11-year-old, has regularly been criticised for diving throughout the season. This included former Liverpool players Jamie Carragher and Danny Murphy, while Gordon was booked for simulation in the 2-0 Merseyside derby defeat at Anfield in April.
