Los Angeles Lakers' star big man, Anthony Davis, has confirmed that he has recovered from an eye injury sustained during a game against Toronto. Despite the noticeable discoloration and redness in his left eye, Davis remains undeterred and is set to play in the upcoming game against Memphis.
Davis downplayed the impact of the injury, stating that he will continue with his usual routine and prioritize getting more rest. While unsure of the exact nature of the injury, Davis has been cleared to play and is focused on his upcoming game.
This recent eye injury is not the first for Davis, who previously suffered a corneal abrasion last March. However, he did not miss any playing time due to that injury. Describing his current condition as 'a couple of scratches in my eye,' Davis emphasized that he is medically cleared to compete.
Despite suggestions to wear protective goggles following multiple facial injuries, Davis remains adamant about not using them unless medically necessary. He recalled briefly wearing goggles during his high school days and a short stint in the NBA bubble but quickly abandoned them.
The injury occurred during a game against Toronto when Davis blocked a dunk attempt by Jakob Poeltl, resulting in accidental contact to his face. Although he did not return to the game, the Lakers secured a victory over the Raptors.
Davis, who is off to a stellar start this season, is generating early MVP buzz with impressive statistics. Averaging 31.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game, Davis has been a key player for the Lakers.
With Christian Wood still sidelined due to a knee injury setback, Jaxson Hayes has stepped up as Davis' backup. Lakers coach JJ Redick provided an update on Wood's condition, indicating that the player will be scaled back in his recovery process.
Despite the challenges, the Lakers are maintaining a solid record of 6-4 this season, with Davis leading the charge on the court.
