Federal government support payments are now available to victims of flooding in a number of areas along the east coast.
Those in the Victorian local government areas (LGAs) of Campaspe, Greater Shepparton, Maribyrnong, Mitchell and Strathbogie along with the Tasmanian LGAs of Central Coast, Kentish and Meander Valley are now eligible for the one-off, non-means-tested payments.
Those affected can access payments of $1,000 per adult and $400 per child.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the payments were in recognition of the number of home owners affected in certain LGAs.
"This support is of course small compensation but it does mean people are getting that support on the ground and we will make that available," he said.
"And that information will be available from [Sunday] afternoon to ensure the money can flow immediately."
Mr Albanese said the fresh support was in addition to disaster recovery allowances already available to victims.
"In Victoria, the disaster recovery allowance is available to anyone in the 23 local government areas that are impacted.
"In Tasmania, 17 local government areas are impacted and are eligible for the disaster recovery allowance.
"In New South Wales, an additional four LGAs have been added unfortunately due to the spread of the impact of this flood event, bringing that number to 31."
Information on how to apply for the payments can be found on the Services Australia website.
ADF support on the way
Members of the Australian Defence Force will be deployed to Victoria to assist with the flood response.
One hundred ADF personnel will be going to assist in areas hit by the disaster, with the government open to sending more.
Mr Albanese said those 100 personnel would be on the ground by Sunday night.
"ADF personnel will be on the ground here in Victoria, providing support with evacuations, providing support with sandbagging, providing whatever support is required.
"We will continue to respond positively to further requests."
