Ant and Dec have taken a subtle swipe at Matt Hancock after he addressed his ‘mistakes’ during his tenure as Health Secretary during Friday’s instalment of I'm A Celebrity.
During the Geordie duo’s nightly debrief on Instagram after Friday night's show, the fan favourites questioned how genuine the politician is on I’m A Celebrity.
Speaking on their Instagram Live, Dec began: “There is a lot of very open and honest conversations going on which I think is what we all wanted to see when we heard that Matt was going in.”
He continued: “We wanted the other campmates to have the opportunity to really grill him in an enclosed environment, I suppose.”
Ant then added: “And I know Sue said, ‘Oh, we've drawn a line under it now’.”
“I don't think they have,” Dec interjected as Ant then said: “I don't think so, especially Chris Moyles, he said he still doesn't feel like he saw the real Matt, and I kind of agree, will we ever see the real Matt? I'm not so sure.” “I don't know,” agreed Dec, shaking his head.
Ant and Dec also revealed there is a major show shake-up in the works as they promised fans there will be a live trial soon on I’m A Celebrity.
After a fan posed the question in the comments section, Dec asked Ant if that would be the case. “Yes, there is a live trial this year,” confirmed Ant.
The pair's comments came after Matt Hancock became emotional on Friday evening’s episode, as he told his I'm A Celebrity campmates that he is ‘looking for a bit of forgiveness’.
The former Health Secretary was once again being grilled by campmates about the actions that led to his resignation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hancock, who had the Tory whip suspended after joining the ITV series, was forced to resign last year after CCTV footage emerged of him kissing aide Gina Colangelo while social distancing guidelines were in place.
However, while Hancock told his campmates the moment was a ‘mistake’, he defended his overall record as a cabinet minister during the pandemic.
Speaking later in the Bush Telegraph room, Hancock said: “Lots of the campmates asked questions that the public have got as well and it's only respectful to just give completely straight and truthful answers.”
After a frank discussion, some of the campmates appeared to show some understanding towards the MP, but radio presenter Chris Moyles was not fully convinced.
He said: “Honestly, the way I feel now is he's pulled the mask slightly off his chin a little bit but I still think he's not telling us the full truth.”
