Ant and Dec spill more details on I'm A Celebrity as they confirm Australia return

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly are excited to be taking I'm A Celebrity back to its "spiritual home" in Australia.

The presenting duo - who have fronted the show since its inception - said that, pending Covid restrictions in both here and Oz, ITV plan to take the show back to its native Australia after two years in Wales.

Owing to the Covid pandemic, ITV had to move production from sunny Australia to cold and wet Wales, where they held the iconic show at Gwrych Castle in the north of the country.

And now the duo have spilled some new details about the upcoming series.

Speaking on Heart FM, Ant said: "The plan is, we’re going back to Australia, we don’t want to go elsewhere. It’s got to go back to it. Back to its spiritual home, back to where it all started. Everyone wants to see a bit of sunshine at that time of year on the telly."

The duo later appeared on ITV's This Morning when they chatted to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about the upcoming series and admitted they couldn't wait to get back to Australia after two years in Wales.

When asked about returning to Australia, Dec said: "If they’ll let us in the country, we’ll be back in."

The duo discussed the upcoming series on This Morning (ITV)

"We had two lovely years in Wales, we really enjoyed our time in Wales, but this show has to be in Australia, we have to go back."

During its time in Wales, the show crowned one King and one Queen of the Castle. In 2021, Giovanna Fletcher beat the likes of Vernon Kay and Jordan North to the top prize, whilst in 2021, Emmerdale's Danny Miller won ahead of Frankie Bridge and Simon Gregson.

It comes after The Mirror exclusively revealed the timing of this series of I'm A Celebrity would be changed to coincide with the football World Cup. Normally, I'm A Celebrity goes into December, but with the football, this would have to be changed.

"The best thing for viewers was to just avoid the clash altogether. The last thing anyone wants is for the audience to have to choose between the latest from the jungle and an England game," a source said.

Instead, it is now the case that I'm A Celebrity will start on October 30 so the Ant and Dec fronted show ends on November 20, just in time before the World Cup starts from Qatar on November 21, 2022.
