Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway cancellation sparks tactical move from Channel 5 as fans fume

While there was no Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend, Ant and Dec weren’t entirely absent from screens as they became the subject of a show on Channel 5.

There was outcry from Takeaway fans last week, when it was announced that ITV were cancelling the show and Starstruck straight after it, to make way for live coverage of the Six Nations rugby.

The rugby was set to take over ITV from 7.15pm to 10.30pm, but while Saturday Night Takeaway wasn’t on, Ant and Dec were on the TV. Seizing on the viewer backlash against ITV, Channel 5 made sure that fans could still get their fix of the Geordie duo, as they screened Ant and Dec’s 30 Greatest Moments at the same time Takeaway would normally be on.

The two hour long show features highlights from the lads’ long and illustrious career, I’m using their foray into music, their rise to fame on Byker Grove and their hosting of many smash hit prime time shows.

Noticing the best of programme on their schedule, one Ant and Dec fan posted: “channel 5 to the rescue tomorrow. They are showing Ant and Dec 30 greatest moments tomorrow at 7.30.” Equally thrilled, another tweeted: “ For everyone who is missing Saturday night Takeaway. There is a documentary on Channel 5 tonight celebrating all things Ant and Dec. It airs at 7.30.”

A few fans even tweeted Ant and Dec to tell them they could watch themselves on TV, with one writing: “That’s Ok, you’re on Channel 5 for the 30 best Ant & Dec moments same time as your normal slot”
