Ant and Dec reunite with unrecognisable BGT star Connie Talbot 17 years on from show debut

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were reunited with one of the first ever Britain's Got Talent contestants this morning.

The Geordie duo caught up with Connie Talbot 17 on from first meeting the singer on the ITV talent show, where she auditioned in front of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges at the tender age of six.

Connie, now 22, impressed viewers and judges alike when she sang Over the Rainbow in her 2007 audition during the first ever series of Britain's Got Talent, where she ended up finishing in second place behind opera singer Paul Potts.

Appearing on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden this morning, Britain's Got Talent presenters Ant and Dec took a trip down memory lane as they caught up with a now-adult Connie.

Connie Talbot was just six-years-old when she made a name for herself on Britain's Got Talen (ITV)

Amanda - who was on the judging panel when Connie stepped on the famous stage as a child - kicked off the conversation, as Dec remarked: "Look at her little picture!"

"How are you doing Connie? Are you still performing?" Ant asked the singer during their on-air reunion.

Connie replied: "I’m good, really really good. I am, I’m an independent artist now and doing new music, got an EP coming up in April."

Amanda chimed in to say "that's exciting" before adding: "She’s got an absolutely stunning voice and you still look like you looked."

The three stars laughed as Connie replied: "I got my fringe done on Tuesday!"

Heart Breakfast presenter then asked if Connie appeared on the first ever series of Britian's Got Talent, to which Amanda replied: First ever series where none of us knew what we were doing apart from Connie.

Ant added: "I wasn’t sure the show was ever going to work and then Connie turned up and other people like Paul Potts and we went “god we’ve got a show here!” Britain has Got Talent! At that point we all thought there was a question mark, Britain’s Got Talent?"

"I tell you what Connie, I’m thrilled you’re still singing!" Jamie quipped when speaking to the young star.

Birmingham-born Connie released her first album, named Over the Rainbow, six months after appearing on BGT in 2007. It sold 250,000 copies and the child star went on to release a Christmas album the following year.

The Britain's Got Talent finalist previously reflected on her time on the show during an appearance on Loose Women.

She admitted on the ITV show she hadn’t been "upset" when Paul beat her to be crowned the first ever winner of the series, particularly when then-judge Piers Morgan hailed her "the best six-year-old singer" he had ever seen.

Connie went on it confess she finds it embarrassing watching her performances back, saying: "I was like ‘oh, God, don’t show that’.

"When I hear that chipmunk voice … I sounded like a chipmunk.

"I think I was too little – I just wanted to go on the show and I just kept saying I want a good show for Simon, it was the first time.

"I wasn’t upset by it at all."
