Stars of previous seasons of the ratings-winning ITV show I'm A Celebrity. . . Get Me Out Of Here! are to gather to compete in a special series to be filmed in South Africa. Hosts Ant and Dec confirmed the news in a video posted on Instagram from the country yesterday (Thursday).
Declan Donnelly said: "It's going to be your favourite celebrities from the last 20 years who are going back in to do it one more time — in South Africa." Among the rumoured line-up secured so far are EastEnders favourite Dean Gaffney, Made in Chelsea's Georgia Toffolo, and Countdown's Carol Vorderman.
Gaffney appeared in Series 6 as a late entrant, coming into the camp on Day 5. That series ended with Busted's Matt Willis taking the King of the Jungle title. Toffolo won series 17 in 2017 and Vorderman finished 9th the year before, when Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt took the crown.
Ant and Dec filmed Thursday's announcement before a dramatic landscape of mountains and a lake in South Africa, a scene totally different to the series' usual claustrophobic jungle setting. In the video, Donnelly says: "Hello everybody, we’ve got news for you.
"It’s probably the worst kept secret in television but we can confirm we are doing a very special series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in South Africa. We’re here, it’s going to be your favourite celebrities from the last 20 years who are going back in to do it one more time — in South Africa.”
Although filming is understood to be under way, the programme will not be aired until next year, after the forthcoming season, which returns to Australia after two years of being based in Gwrych Castle in North Wales due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
