It’s not something the Detroit Lions are accustomed to, but it might be a growing trend. For the third time in a week, a player placed on waivers by the Lions has been claimed by another NFL team.
Last week it was TE Matt Sokol and OLB Rashod Berry who got snatched up by other teams after being cut by the Lions. Sokol joined the New England Patriots, while Berry was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars. This week it’s OLB Jessie Lemonier.
The Lions waived Lemonier on Monday in order to sign LB Natrez Patrick. On Tuesday, Lemonier was claimed by the Arizona Cardinals, per the NFL’s transaction wire.
It makes sense for the Cardinals to claim Lemonier, who most notably bagged a sack of Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers in Week 18. The defensive scheme change impacted Lemonier in Detroit more than any lack of ability, and he’ll be able to better show what he can do in the Cardinals’ 3-4 front.
