Bonfire Night is fast approaching with just over three weeks left until November 5.
In previous years, there have been fireworks displays held in Wirral parks including Birkenhead Park and Central Park, Wallasey, along with parks in Leasowe, Woodchurch, Bebington and Moreton. People have been waiting to hear what plans are in place for Guy Fawkes night this year.
Earlier this week, Liverpool Council confirmed there will not be an organised fireworks display held on the River Mersey, or elsewhere in Liverpool. The city is hosting the River of Light festival instead, with the public able to view 10 artwork installations from October 21 to November 6, which will be lit up between 5pm and 9pm each night.

Prior to the covid pandemic, the River of Light festival included a huge fireworks display that lit up the skies on both sides of the Mersey, with crowds gathering to watch from New Brighton and Birkenhead. The River of Light took place twice last year, but fireworks have not been a part of the festival since 2019.
Now, we've been told there will not be any council organised fireworks displays in parks in Wirral either. A spokesperson for Wirral Council has confirmed there will be no council-run fireworks displays in parks this year.

That means, those hoping to go to an event will need to look for alternative community displays. Tranmere Rovers traditionally host an annual display at Prenton Park, though details for this year are yet to be confirmed.
