Anne Hegerty's life away from 'The Governess', her fake husband and autism diagnosis

Anne Hegerty is one of ITV's most recognisable faces after she accepted the role of The Chaser all the way back in 2010.

Taking the title of "The Governess" in the daytime quiz show, The Chase, and running with it, Anne launched a hugely successful television career which saw her branch off on a multitude of shows including DNA Journey and Cooking With The Stars.

Anne is known for being extremely private about her personal life but her stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! allowed viewers to get a sneak peek into what makes The Governess tick. She shared details of starting her life as a reporter in the mid-80s at the South Wales Argus before hopping to Manchester to follow a career in ghost-writing.

Her overwhelming trivia knowledge has always been a passion of Anne's and she spent the 80s travelling the UK to take part in quiz shows where she soon made a name for herself as the one to beat. She took on the BBC's illustrious Mastermind chair and even the Eggheads but the latter sadly got the better of her.

Anne said: "I didn't actually become an Egghead but I was third on that competition, and that sort of put me on the map. I didn't realise, but the quizzing community is a little incestuous community and everyone knows everybody."

She then moved on to become a freelance proof-reader but struggled to stay on top of her accounts due to her autism, which she was diagnosed with in her 40s, MyLondon reported. Now an ambassador for the National Autistic Society, Anne previously spoke out about her diagnosis, where she said: "I'd had all my life what they call executive dysfunction, which sounds very much like laziness but it's like where you really want to get things done and you just simply can't see your way to doing it, you can't get the brain cells lined up without getting distracted.

"I lived in a flat that's owned by a housing association, it's called shared ownership. You own half the flat, you pay rent on the other half. I had essentially not been paying my rent and one of the housing association's officers sort of knocked on my door and she charged right in and said 'right we will fix this, we will sort this out."

An anonymous man going by the name of Jake Hester made his rounds in regards to Anne's love life with fans quickly claiming he was her husband. The 63-year-old was quick to debunk the rumours, pinning it down to a Wikipedia mistake. She said: "Is [Wikipedia] still claiming I'm married to someone called Jake Hester? I've given up trying to correct it." Other rumours circulated Anne was a lesbian which she was also quick to shut down by declaring her ideal boyfriend would be a "clever clog and a fan of literature."

Not keen on the idea of motherhood, she noted she thinks children are expensive and "incredibly chaotic." She said: "You don't miss what you haven't had and I just think I love the peace and quiet of my life. I would like more of it."

Today, according to CelebrityNetWorth, Anne Hegerty is worth a whopping £4m.
