Annan Athletic boss can't believe Queen of the South derby is here already

Annan boss Peter Murphy can hardly believe the derby cup tie at Queen of the South is here so soon.

The teams clash at Palmerston tomorrow in their first group game in the Premier Sports League Cup.

And Murphy said: “This game has come around very, very quickly for us.

“But we had a longer season last year with getting to the play-off final then we gave the boys a break, but it was so short with this season starting earlier (due to the World Cup).

“We have also been short of the squad at training due to players having holidays. Scott Hooper got married plus there were other boys going on stag dos.

“So we have not had our full squad to work with, but we are certainly looking to get back into it this weekend with the Queens game.”

Murphy revealed that one new player who could feature is latest signing Benjamin Luissint, 23, who agreed a one-year deal from Gretna 2008.

He said: “Benjy signed last week and his registration is just going through now.

“He is a former Queen of the South player and we had him in on trial after he was released at Gretna.

“He is a midfielder and he seems to have settled in very quickly. Benjy looks like he is enjoying being here and will be a good character for the dressing room.”

Murphy added: “We managed to sign Cammy Williamson from Falkirk who is a 19-year-old left back and Charlie Barnes has agreed to stay on with us for another year. He is only 20 and has a lot of ahead of him.

“Now we are just looking forward to facing Queen of the South. It will be a big test for us.”
