PARIS: At the business end of an intense opening set against Czech Karolina Muchova in the third-round of the French Open, Amanda Anisimova, the 27th seed, closed the point and turned to her box. “I can’t hear you,” she said, raising her arms.
“Everyone was a bit loud, especially in the first set and I felt like it was more against me. I was asking my box to be louder, say it loud enough just for me to hear,” Anisimova said of the atmosphere on the packed Court Suzanne-Lenglen which was in fact rooting for the American. The 20-year-old was perhaps reaching for her security blanket as things got tight between the chalked lines. “When I'm nervous, I try to distract myself by saying those things,” she said, before adding, “but hopefully my team can be louder for me in the next match.”
