Anil Kumar Kandalam’s Digital Healthcare Masterpiece: How His Engineering Expertise Is Delivering Faster, More Reliable Care Around the Globe

Anil Kumar Kandalam

It is hard to think of any other industry that will benefit from rapidly changing technologies as much as the healthcare sector.

The first step towards a revolution in the field was taken by Anil Kumar Kandalam, a top-rated Lead Platform Engineer known for implementing groundbreaking platforms and solutions that enable efficient and swift provision of healthcare services worldwide.

Anil explains: "As far as the greater context goes, I am trying to make data integration fast and reliable so that people can retrieve their required data in seconds. So far, my efforts have managed to do away with older systems and replace them with more effective ones, saving a great deal of time and money."

Anil, with 14 years of experience in software development and microservices, has implemented revolutionary platforms in the healthcare management space. Recently, Anil's efforts were especially vital during the pandemic, when he helped develop solutions in response to COVID-19. Anil is considered an innovator in the sphere due to his unique skills, versatility, and vision.

Bringing Engineering Precision to Patient Care

Healthcare was always his priority and a passion. Anil says: "In my line of business, I am always trying to find applications in sectors that affect our lives directly. This is why I eventually got interested in developing innovative solutions for improving patient experience and healthcare management."

Indeed, Anil's innovations in his new role have been a game-changer at the PSL Group, an international entity that provides the medical industry with essential and reliable information. During the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, Anil spearheaded the redesign of the platform, reducing the time required to distribute life-saving newsletters to healthcare professionals.

Anil shares: "Previously, we used to spend several weeks organizing and distributing the information. Now, with my team's effort, we can publish the newsletter within several days."

Such prompt distribution of critical information might be lifesaving in some cases, as it allows medical professionals to receive vital data immediately.

Guru Prasath Sethumadhavan is the Associate Director of QA in Development and Automation on cloud platforms at PSL.

Sethumadhavan recalls: "In 2017, the PSL Group was looking for a developer of end-to-end engineering cycles. Fortunately, we found Anil, and since then, the company has been benefiting from his skills, knowledge, and expertise. He had been leading for quite a few years and had strong technical knowledge. Anil led the development team in an exceptional way, with strong technical and domain knowledge."

Cutting-Edge AI and Data Solutions That Redefine Efficiency

One of Anil's most remarkable achievements has been the development of a specially designed GPT tool, a generative AI platform engineered exclusively for healthcare professionals.

This tool pulls up-to-date information from rigorously trusted sources. It’s more than a traditional AI assistant; it is a precision instrument that ensures accuracy and relevancy by carefully curating verified information.

Unlike general AI models that comb through vast amounts of unvetted data, this specialized GPT tool, used in more than 10,000 institutions across the globe, is finely tuned to meet the stringent demands of medical practice, providing only credible, reliable insights.

However, there are other reasons his influence in the healthcare IT industry has grown dramatically: his well-established, precise, integrated methodologies, which are considered best practice today.

The first thing about it is that it allows eliminating unnecessary legacy systems and implementing precision data integration and speed optimization. Thus, the required information appears almost instantly, rather than waiting days or even weeks.

Also, the legacy-to-cloud migration process is crucial to avoid any unnecessary costs, save money, and unlock the scalability of healthcare organizations. In other words, it provides an opportunity to migrate efficiently using experience gained at companies such as JetBlue and Allstate.

Moreover, to achieve high accuracy, AI validation is vital, and the system should focus solely on delivering high-integrity data.

As Anil points out: "Healthcare professionals do not waste their time on searching for information. They need quick, exact answers. For that reason, our specially designed GPT tool was developed to provide medical specialists with verified data in seconds. Our goal was not just to generate texts but to give doctors and nurses what they need."

This precision-driven approach has made Anil a standout in the field.

As one industry expert puts it: "Anil doesn't just deliver solutions; he creates platforms that change the entire workflow in healthcare, allowing doctors and researchers to do their jobs better and faster. It's rare to see someone in tech with a fine understanding of healthcare needs."

Anil's work on AI tools, such as specialized GPT platforms, and his efforts to optimize data platforms have bolstered reliability and delivered tremendous cost savings. His migration of legacy systems to cloud-based infrastructure for clients like JetBlue Airways and Allstate Insurance saved them millions in maintenance and operational expenses—results that few in his field have replicated.

Key Competencies of Anil’s Work

Anil possesses an extraordinary ability to integrate adaptability with his profound expertise and experience, setting him apart from other engineers. The seamless integration with existing technological systems is one of the features that characterize his work.

Unlike many people who tend to introduce entirely new products or technologies into companies, Anil develops innovative solutions that complement existing ones.

He says: "As much as anyone could come into a place and introduce a brand new technology and a system – making them fit and function properly within a pre-existing system without breaking everything down – is something I excel at doing. I focus on making things that will benefit the company in the long run and not need to be completely redone after several months' period of use."

In addition to his engineering skills and knowledge, Anil has a strong talent for mentoring and collaborating with other engineers. In particular, he has been mentoring healthcare engineers to become proficient in their work and acquire valuable skills. He is considered an excellent leader because of his willingness to teach others.

Anil explains: "Being a mentor to others means allowing them to learn and grow through their mistakes. They should try new things and innovate, but at the same time take their experiences as lessons."

Furthermore, he is a popular mentor at the site ADPList, where he mentors over 50 mentees from as many as nine countries, including Canada, the US, and Mexico.

Reflecting on his broader engineering philosophy, Anil adds: "Our methodology shows that you do not necessarily have to tear out all legacy systems. By integrating microservices and cloud platforms carefully, we cut newsletter delivery from weeks to days during COVID, and that same approach is now delivering faster, more reliable care across different organizations."

Engineering the Future of Global Healthcare

Anil emphasizes that AI not only allows for the development of better treatments and care strategies but can also optimize the operation of different institutions involved in healthcare: "AI-generated session summaries help conference attendees get the most out of each event without having to attend all sessions. In addition, AI tools developed according to our methodology decrease the time needed to write a summary of conference reports by 50%."

Anil's experience helps ensure that integrating AI into the medical sector is a well-defined process, not just a passing trend.

As the expert in question focuses on integrating AI, it becomes evident that he makes medical operations more efficient, thereby helping doctors and other healthcare professionals become more productive.

By optimizing data accessibility and automation, Anil demonstrates that AI is a technological trend and a pivotal tool in improving patient care and operational effectiveness.

He articulates the tangible impact clearly: "The real power is in data integration and validation. Physicians can save 5- 7 minutes per patient because our platforms surface trusted information instantly; over a full day, that means more time with patients and less time chasing records. But the system only works when the input is high-quality, and the output is validated."

Krishna Chaitanya R. Chimakurthi, Digital Solution Architect Director at NTT Data, met Anil while working for TIBCO Technologies. He has known Anil for 10 years, both professionally and personally, and understands the impact of his contributions to digital healthcare.

Chimakurthi says: "A great society needs great minds, kind people, and ethically thoughtful people. I strongly believe Anil holds all the qualities that can benefit society with his great attitude and sincerity."

Siva Dutta is a Senior Integration Developer who has worked with Anil since 2014. They have collaborated on several initiatives, including a JetBlue project at TIBCO Software.

He explains: "I first encountered Anil's unique skills in JetBlue when he took the lead in implementing a complicated cloud platform infrastructure. What impressed me about Anil was his skill at stabilizing such a complex environment by paying close attention to many factors and anticipating potential outcomes. Moreover, Anil demonstrated excellent skills in building a reliable architecture that would be able to store millions of confidential pieces of information."

In addition, Dutta says: "Since Anil became my partner and colleague in the field, he has turned into an excellent source of help and advice in any situation. Whenever I have had a problem with technology, he has always been the first person who came to mind. The most impressive thing about Anil is how he fills any knowledge gaps. If he sees something new, he researches the matter in great depth and then provides the team with necessary information."

However, for Anil, it seems like this is just a start.

As he admits, there are too many areas that can be improved in terms of the healthcare system, as such: "There are still a lot of things that can be done in order to make healthcare more efficient, affordable, and available. I think that the key idea is to ensure that any information required becomes available within seconds to anyone needing it."

This is what Anil Kumar Kandalam is working for now – building a healthcare industry based on efficiency, reliability, and trust. A future where the latest medical data is available instantly, wherever and whenever needed.
