There are fears inside the Palace that Prince Harry could paint Camilla as the “baddie” in an upcoming memoir, an insider has claimed.
The Duke of Sussex stopped by Windsor Castle and paid his father and stepmother a brief visit earlier this month.
It was said to have been a friendly affair that left the royals glad they had caught up.
However, this came on the back of shocking claims in Tina Brown’s The Palace Papers that “Harry can’t stand Camilla, he doesn’t want Camilla to be Queen.”
In light of his recent visit and the Prince’s new role away from the Royal Family, there are fears Harry could target his stepmother in his upcoming book.
One Royal insider said the Duke “needs a new target and she [the Duchess] will do.
“I’m sure he will say unkind things about her or try to make her a ‘baddie’, but that doesn’t mean it’s real.”
On top of that, the insider claimed that Harry might not come back for his father’s future coronation as a way to “create drama”.
They added: “If the strategy is to create drama, this [not attending the coronation] creates drama.”
This comes on the back of reports from Private Eye that Prince Harry had allegedly drawn a “red line” and said he had “no intention” of attending any future coronation ceremony of Prince Charles and Camilla.
The Palace denied the reports.
News that Camilla was to become Queen when Charles became king was a shock to members of the public.
The relationship between Prince Harry and Camilla was blown back into the spotlight recently after Ms Brown’s book which depicted a long history of resentment from Harry.
It claimed he would be left “very angry” that she would one day be “Queen Camilla”.
However, sources claimed it was not always like this, and in the past, the Prince often acted as a “ice-breaker” to smooth over their meetings with his father and his brother.
One source characterised Harry’s approach to her as "acceptance, occasional pangs of guilt, and ambivalence".
The Duchess of Cornwall was the first member of the Royal family to invite Meghan Markle to lunch after she moved to Britain.
But since Harry’s criticisms of the Prince of Wales, their relationship is said to have worsened.
One damning claim said that towards the end of his time before his move to California, the Duke of Sussex tended to ignore Camilla in private despite appearing together warmly in public.
The upcoming Duke’s autobiography is expected to detail his memories of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, including the unhappy end to his parents’ marriage.
It is due to be published in October.
